South Australian Cricket Association
Although there can be variations in recreation format, in contrast with professional cricket, the Laws are at all times observed and club/school matches are subsequently formal and competitive events. The sport has quite a few informal variants such as French cricket. The wicket-keeper (sometimes referred to as simply the "keeper") is a specialist fielder topic to numerous rules within the Laws about his tools and manner. Batters take turns to bat via a batting order which is determined beforehand by the staff captain and offered to the umpires, although the order remains flexible when the captain officially nominates the staff. Substitute batters are usually not allowed, except within the case of concussion substitutes in worldwide cricket. A bowler reaches his delivery stride by the use of a "run-up" and an over is deemed to have begun when the bowler starts his run-up for the primary delivery of that over, the ball then being "in play".
